Simpson Village – Rebecca Hiorns and Peter Barnes

The walk will follow a route around the village of Simpson, looking at both the naturally occurring flora and fauna and the recently initiated projects to enhance biodiversity. The latter include the management of St Thomas’s churchyard, the Parish Council’s partnership with SERCO to inform the responsible mowing of open spaces, the erection and monitoring of bird nesting boxes by a group of residents, and the creative work of members of the Simpson in Bloom Group. The walk will also explore the wildlife opportunities afforded by the historic meadow of Simpson Warren Field; the River Ouzel (where otters have been sighted this year); and locate the widespread mistletoe.

The walk is mostly on surfaced paths, with one or two short distances through low grass.

Following the walk, there will be an optional opportunity to go in search of bats. If you have a bat detector, please bring it.

Meet in the Parks Trust car park (free) at the southern end of Simpson Drive.  Turn left at the T- junction at the end of Simpson Drive, cross the bridge over the R. Ouzel and turn immediately right.    MK6 3AD.  OS Map reference SP884362.
