MKNHS Membership

Everyone is welcome at Milton Keynes Natural History Society meetings, whether you are an experienced naturalist or just beginning to explore the natural world. Annual membership is £25 for adults (18+), with free membership for those under 18 and for 18–21 year-olds in full-time education.

Why Join MKNHS?

  • Free access to all indoor talks during September – April – weekly Tuesday evening meetings while visitors pay £2 per session. 
  • Local field meetings and events – regular outings to explore Milton Keynes and surrounding areas, guided by knowledgeable leaders in May – August.
  • Access to the Society’s library – borrow books, journals, and resources on natural history topics.
  • Digital resources and archives – access past talks and recordings. Members can also join our talks remotely via live streaming.
  • Gordon Osborn Bequest Fund – members can apply for grants to support research, surveys, or projects in natural history.
  • Expert support in species identification – guidance from experienced members in plants, fungi, insects, birds, and other wildlife.
  • Residential trips – occasional opportunities to join longer excursions (costs covered by participants).
  • Community and networking – connect with fellow enthusiasts, researchers, and conservationists in a welcoming environment.
  • Citizen science opportunities – contribute to local wildlife surveys and recording schemes
  • Creative engagement – opportunities to share photography, artwork, or writing inspired by nature.
  • Volunteer opportunities – contribute to the Society by helping with events, supporting outreach activities, assisting with the website, and managing social media. Volunteers also play a vital role in keeping the Society running smoothly and connected.
