Summer programme – walk descriptions

During the summer, the Society normally holds outdoor meetings every Tuesday from May through to the end of August.  Although it is not possible to hold our usual programme of summer walks for groups of Society members this year, you can still visit the sites and try the walks for yourself!

Walk leaders are providing descriptions of the walks they would have led with information about the route and descriptions of the wildlife that may be seen. You can use these to explore the sites on your own or with family or friends. If you aren’t able to visit the sites in person, use these descriptions to find out more about the wildlife in and around Milton Keynes. The walk descriptions can be found here.

Autumn programme – plans for Zoom meetings

During the autumn and winter, from September through to the end of April, the Society normally holds indoor meetings every Tuesday at The Cruck Barn, City Discovery Centre, Bradwell Abbey. Due to Covid19 restrictions, we have been advised by the City Discovery Centre that the Cruck Barn is unlikely to be available for hire earlier than the New Year.  (Should CDC be able to open safely earlier than this, they will let us know.)

Reluctantly, the Committee has concluded that for the rest of this year the Society’s activities will have to be delivered virtually using Zoom technology or via the Society’s website.

As you may already know, Zoom is a digital platform that allows participants to meet together in real time, and see and talk to each other, as well as sharing screens to show slides or videos. To access Zoom meetings you will need either a PC (with camera, if possible), a laptop, a tablet, or an iPad. A smart phone can also be used, but the size of screen limits what can be seen. Access to Zoom sound by telephone is still under investigation.

Before a Society meeting, members will be sent an invitation including a link to join the meeting.  If you are using a PC or laptop, simply click on this link and follow the instructions in order to join. If you are using a tablet, iPad or smart phone, you will need to download the app form the relevant app store.  More information about how to access and use Zoom features is available on the website’s new Zoom Support page.

There are several opportunities to try out Zoom, and get familiar with using it:

Upcoming Zoom meetings:
