    Near the recently restored house are splendid mature trees, a walled garden, Victorian shrubberies, a young plantation, golf course, paddocks and lake.
    A good venue for wetland, woodland and parkland birds - including possible hawfinch. A total of 40 bird species seen on our first Group visit to Delapre (in February 2019).
    The Orangery Cafe (open from 9.30am) offers breakfast, hot lunches, cakes and drinks to eat in or take away. Toilets on site.
    Unfortunately some paths are likely to be too muddy for wheelchairs and buggies - wellies are advised.

    Directions : From A45 southern by-pass, take A508 London Road, past Queen Eleanor's Cross and towards Northampton town centre. Entrance (with a small lodge) is on right hand side after half a mile.

    Saving Special Places for nature is at the heart of the RSPB's work. This talk looks at the achievements and challenges that fighting for nature's place brings. Andre will talk about current campaigns and some past successes and look to the future when saving what we have won't be enough and restoring and recreating new Special Places must take centre stage.

    Andre wotked for the RSPB for many years and was involved in some of these important projects. He is now an active volunteer with Operation Turtle Dove near his home in Kent.

    Time: Doors open 7.15pm for a prompt 7.45pm start, ends at 10pm

    Price: Group members £3, Non-group members £4, Children £1 - includes tea/coffee at interval

    Wildfowl walk Sunday 17th November

    For those of you who are interested in wildfowl: Andy Harding, former Bucks County Bird Recorder, will be walking round the reserve lakes doing his regular wildfowl count and people are welcome to join him. Please meet at the Centre at 10.00 a.m.

    There may be an opportunity for a general guided walk around the reserve later at 11 a.m. depending on availability of leaders.

    We shall visit the ticket-only Wetlands Nature Reserve (£2.50/£1.75 concessions) with old clay pits, reed befds, scrub, wet pasture and an impressive tower hide. Bearded Tit, Marsh Harrier and Short-eared Owls have all been recorded. 41 bird species seen when we visited last November (+ Chinese Water Deer and even a late Common Darter).
    The vast visitor centre has shop & toilets. Cafe is open from 9am to 5pm - serving breakfast, lunch, cakes and drinks.

    Meet in Forest Centre Car Park (£3 fee) for 10am start.
    From Marston Moretaine take Lidlington Road and turn left to centre

    An optional short extension to view Stewartby Lake for gulls, possible seabirds and Peregrine on the old brickworks chimneys.

    A pleasant wander through landscaped gardens (with hides and feeders), steep pinewoods, old quarries and restored heathland. Then shop for Christmas presents from the RSPB (shop open 9am to 5pm). Please note some steep, rough paths and steps. Toilets on site and shop sells sandwiches and hot drinks from a vending machine - outdoor picnic tables but no cafe.

    Car Park free for RSPB members (please remember to bring your membership card), £5 for non-members

    The nearest train station is Sandy on the King's Cross to Peterborough line. It's just a 10-minute walk from the station, up Potton Road, to the start of the RSPB trails. Another 10-minute walk brings you to the visitor building and shop. Rail passengers can add a Sandy PLUSBUS ticket onto their journey to get the Centrebus from the station to the stop outside The Lodge shop.     You can reach the reserve via National Cycle Route 51 (Milton Keynes to Bedford and Sandy),

    When he's not busy with his day job of Campaigns Project Manager for RSPB. Richard is a keen birder and wildlife watcher. He has visited Poland many times and now leads tours there, focusing on Eastern Poland. He will be showing us some of the birds and wildlife of the Bialowieza Forest and Bielbrza Marshes.
